Major Hon. Simon Nevill Astley

Astley
was the second son of Sir Albert Edward Delaval Astley, 21st Baron
Hastings. He attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and was
commissioned into the 7th Queen's Own Hussars in 1939. The 7th had been
converted to tanks in 1937. Astley was mentioned in despatches for
service with the 7th and rose to the rank of Major. He became
Aide-de-Camp to the Commander-in-Chief of India in 1942 and Aide-de-Camp
to the Viceroy of India in 1943. He was killed at Quetta in a motor
accident in 1946 and laid to rest in the Karachi War Cemetery of
Pakistan.
